...from Lorrayne Wick, Art Consultant, Rockwell Society of America
“Evening enfolds the dignified couple in its soft shadows, but does not dim the light of their love. While the old gentleman reads aloud from a favorite book of verse, his wife pauses in her needlework, hearing, perhaps, the echoes of another reading long ago, when that familiar voice was filled with the ardor of first love. Their love has mellowed now, and like fine wine it has grown deep and rich with the passing of time. As they sit before the fire, Rockwell’s couple remind us that love can endure, and find its truest expression in the twilight of life.” The quiet cat completes the serene picture. This plate would be a thoughtful and loving gift for an elderly couple.

Mother and daughter have found grandma’s elaborate courting dress in the attic. The mother is as beautiful as the former owner and the child admires both the dress and her mother. The heirloom dress has been tenderly cared for and may be worn to a costume ball by this mother, and perhaps in time also by her daughter. Lovely Mother’s Day Plate for gift or display.

The older man waits patiently and looks with fond interest at his young daughter as she deftly uses the needle and thread. She appears to be mending his jacket for him. As with all of Rockwell’s art that elicits emotion, this one suggests a strong bond between the father and daughter.
